THE Melbourne Fashion Festival will take flight tonight with a runway homage to Hitchcock’s The Birds.

Melbourne accessory label Mimco will show its new collection inspired by the leading ladies of Hitchcock films. Mimco creative director Cathryn Wills said there would be a sensory overload, transporting the audience with sound, touch and taste.

“We focused on the notion of escape and what ‘going to the movies’ offers — a little chapter away from the everyday,” she said. “The show will begin in darkness before transporting guests into a visual and musical feast.”

Melbourne-born model Paris Roberts has returned from New York this week for the Mimco parade, and said it would be a powerful production.

“I think if all your senses are engaged, you are completely immersed in the show,” she said.

Roberts, the face of Mimco’s new collection, said this season’s accessory trends were bold and dramatic.

“There is a lot of layering and a lot of intense colour,” she said.
