MARGOT Robbie looks completely unrecognisable as she prepares to play Queen Elizabeth I in a new film.

The former Neighbours star looks to have shaved part her head to transform herself into the virgin queen as she films Mary Queen of Scots in London, The Sun reports.

Actors David Tennant, Guy Pearce and Saoirse Ronan will also star the film which will chart the life of Queen Elizabeth as she faced political mutinies in the face of her rule.

Robbie joins a long list of accomplished actors who have taken on the role.

Judi Dench, Bette Davis, Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett and Miranda Richardson have all previously portrayed the Tudor queen to acclaim.

Mary Queen of Scots is due out next year.
