Kyle Sandilands smashes Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews for banning gas in new homes from 2024

Radio broadcaster Kyle Sandilands has unleashed on Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews as he moves to ban all new homes in the state from using gas.

Reports calls for a deadline to stop new household gas

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews will ban new homeowners from connecting natural gas to homes from next year signalling an end to the gas-fired wok stir fry in new builds.

The Victorian Government is billing the move as a cost of living measure claiming households will save up to $1,000 off their annual energy bills while reducing household emissions.

But the move was slammed by radio broadcaster Kyle Sandilands, who branded the Victorian Premier “a flop” and the policy “some bullsh*t.”

“I’m sick and tired of everyone thinking we’re idiots,” he said. “These laws are for idiots. Losers are doing these jobs.

“They will be banning Bic lighters next, we will be rubbing two sticks together to get a cigarette lit.”

“That government sucks ass. That wandering eyed flop down there can’t have the Commonwealth Games because he can’t budget, now he thinks ‘’Oh, I’ll get the woke losers to vote for me by getting rid of gas’. You’re a flop!”

From 1 January 2024, planning permits for new homes and residential subdivisions will only connect to all electric networks.

To encourage new homeowners to go all-electric, eligible new home builders, as well as existing homeowners and renters, can access $1,400 solar panel rebates and interest free loans of $8,800 for household batteries.

All Victorian households and businesses are also eligible for gas to electric rebates to upgrade heating and cooling and hot water heaters.

Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio said getting Victorians on more efficient electric appliances would lead to big savings on bills.

“We know that with every bill that arrives, gas is only going to get more expensive,” she said.

“That’s why we’re stepping in to help even more Victorians get the best deal on their energy bills.”

“Reducing our reliance on gas is critical to meeting our ambitious emission reduction target of net zero by 2045 and getting more Victorians on more efficient electric appliances which will save them money on their bills.”

Commencing immediately, all new public buildings that haven’t reached the design stage will also be all-electric.

Grants will also be available to volume home builders, developers and others to provide bulk rebates for solar panels, solar hot water and heat pumps to new home buyers up front.

The Andrews Government said that will mean new home buyers will save $4,600 before they even move in and will remove double handling of installations – saving buyers money and hassle.

The Energy Efficiency Council CEO Luke Menzel said “all-electric homes are all-good for Victorian families. They are cheaper to run, healthier to live in, and help lower emissions.”

“Given the upfront costs of building an all-electric home are comparable to building a home with a gas connection, that makes going all-electric a no-brainer,’’ he said.

“Induction cooktops are high quality, lightning fast and great to cook with. Getting gas out of our kitchens is the healthy option for families, with evidence linking gas cooktops to respiratory conditions like asthma.”

Director of the Global Cooksafe Coalition, Laura Kelly, said Australia’s leading chefs, from Neil Perry to Palisa Anderson, are cooking on induction because it’s hotter, faster and more precise.

“A lot of the flavour of restaurant cooking, and the Chinese food at my own restaurant, is just about how hot the wok gets and how hot the ingredients get. The high temperatures on induction can give you this restaurant flavour at home,” chef Victor Liong said.
