Professional boxer and kickboxer turned-gym owner Paul ‘The Dragon’ Le is hoping a house that he is selling in Melbourne’s outer western suburbs lands a knockout blow with buyers.

The four-bedroom home at 26 Wetherby Rd, Wyndham Vale, near Werribee, is on the market with a $580,000-$630,000 asking range.

Le studied Vietnamese karate, judo, Shaolin kung-fu, Wing Chun kung-fu, kickboxing

and Muay Thai before being crowned the 1999 Victorian Amateur Boxing Association’s state champion.

He said that his love of martial arts and self-defence began in his childhood, when he enjoyed watching Bruce Lee movies.

Le became one of the first Vietnamese-Australians to enter the professional boxing and kickboxing world, and named a career highlight as his first pro match, at age 20, that aired on Fox Sports.

“I knocked the guy out in 32 seconds,” Le said.

He went on to win a host of titles including a World Kickboxing Association Australian championship and the professional kickboxing promotion K-1’s Grand Prix Muay Thai Rule Super Fight against the Netherlands’ Danny Manypassa at Vodafone Arena (now John Cain Arena) in 2001.

In 2002, Le was named the Victorian Boxing Trainers League’s most improved pro boxer of the year.

The following year, he was ranked as the number four Australian middleweight professional boxer and won a K-1 fight against Japanese champion Kozo Tekada.

Across 2003, Le notched up 11 fights in eight months across Australia and Asia.

He notched up a total of 52 registered fights during his career.

Now a registered pro boxing, kickboxing and Thai boxing trainer, Le has owned and run Dragon Health & Fitness in Footscray for more than 12 years.

He has trained former AFL player including Andrejs Everitt and former Maribyrnong mayor Nam Quach.

Le is also involved in the Footscray Asian Business Association that his father, Binh, founded, and judges boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai competitions as a member of the Victorian Martial Arts and Professional Boxing Board.

And he’s standing in the Sheoak ward for Maribyrnong Council’s upcoming elections.

Le described the Wyndham Vale residence as his “dream home” but said he had moved closer to Footscray for work.

“The main bedroom is very nice and it’s on the corner, so there’s lots of privacy,” Le said.

“It would be a great area to raise a family, it reminded me of the house in Back to the Future that Marty McFly and his wife lived in.”

The home is located in the Jubilee estate, where residents have exclusive access to the area’s swimming pool and gym.

OBrien Real Estate senior property consultant and corporate auctioneer John Rombotis said the house, featuring two bathrooms, was a good opportunity for a young buyer or family to buy a quality, affordable house.

“It’s pretty much brand new, it was only built two years ago,” Mr Rombotis said.

Expressions of interest will close on October 28.
