‘Egg Boy’ honoured with a mural in Melbourne’s Hosier Lane
The teenager behind Senator Fraser Anning’s egging has been immortalised in one of Melbourne’s most iconic laneways.
William Connolly was an unassuming teenager from an affluent suburb in Melbourne until Saturday when his life changed dramatically.
The 17-year-old emerged a hero when he attacked Queensland Senator Fraser Anning with an egg. He was quickly dubbed Egg Boy online, a GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for him and now he has been immortalised in paint in one of Melbourne’s most iconic laneways.
The mural illustrates the exact moment Mr Connolly broke the egg over the back of Senator Anning’s head.
It was painted on Hosier Lane in Melbourne by street artist Van T Rudd, who is Kevin Rudd’s nephew.
Senator Anning retaliated after the egg attack by hitting Mr Connolly in the face twice. A number of Senator Anning’s supporters then tackled the teen to the ground and held him there until police arrived.
Mr Connolly’s egg moment attracted worldwide attention, with his Instagram account gaining more than 400,000 followers and his latest post receiving more than 130,000 comments.
A GoFundMe page was set up in the wake of the attack to raise $2000 to pay his “legal fees” and “more eggs” and it exceeded $40,000 in one day.
He also had support from prominent musicians including the Hilltop Hoods, Violent Soho, and The Living End who have offered him free tickets to their gigs for life.

In a video, tweeted by ABC News journalist Rashida Yosufzai, Mr Connolly is seen with black eyes and cradles his face. He offers advice to others: “Don’t egg politicians, you get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time, I learnt the hard way. F**k.”

Senator Anning showed no remorse when speaking to the media this morning.
“I don’t regret anything I do,” he said. “I defended myself, that’s what Australians do usually, they defend themselves.”
The Senator then had a crack at the egg-wielding boy and his parents.
“He got a slap across the face which is what his mother should have given him a long time ago because he’s been misbehaving badly.”
Senator Anning is now facing a lashing of public backlash as a Change.org petition surfaced which has amassed more than one million signatures, making it one of the biggest Australian online petitions in history.
It has one simple aim — to remove the Senator from parliament.
