A woman who was shot in a brutal home invasion made a final post to Instagram just hours before she was killed.

Cops were called to a home on Parson Street in Rye on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in the early hours of Monday morning following reports of an altercation.

Police arrived to find 19-year-old Charlyze Hayter dead along with the owner of the home 29-year-old tradie Jackson Gilmour, both suffering gunshot wounds.

Detectives believe Ms Hayter arrived at Mr Gilmour’s home with another male who was armed.

The three were known to each other.

Police have been unable to find the unknown man and are now appealing to the public for information.

Just hours before the altercation, Ms Hayter made a post to Instagram which appears to show graffiti scattered across the interior walls of her home.

The post has since been flooded with messages from loved ones.

“Rest in peace beautiful thankyou for all the times you were there for me love you always,” one wrote.

On Tuesday, Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson confirmed that the incident was targeted, as the family of Mr Gilmour continue to search for answers.

“We don’t know if there is still a firearm outstanding [and] we presume there was a getaway car,” she said on Monday.

“We are seeking to find out the identity of the man and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in that area this morning who may have seen something.”

The shocking deaths have shaken the local community in Rye, a typically quiet, affluent suburb just south of Melbourne, where residents report hearing nothing unusual at the time of the incident.

“Homicide Squad detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the current whereabouts of the man or the identity of the woman involved,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Police are also appealing for anyone in the area who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.”
