A woman has been seriously injured after she was allegedly attacked by a stranger in a shop on a busy street in Melbourne’s west.
Police allege the man went up to the woman in a shop on Bay St in Port Melbourne before assaulting her shortly before 10am on Tuesday.
The woman was rushed to hospital with serious upper body injuries.
The man is alleged to have fled the scene, with a large police presence spotted in the area.
He is described as being caucasian in appearance, with a solid build, aged in his 40s and wearing a blue hoodie.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police, with the investigation ongoing.
