He is expected to face an out of sessions court hearing on Wednesday night where police will aim to have him remanded in custody to face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

“Police will allege the parties involved are known to each other,” a statement read.

Detectives from the Cobram Crime Investigation Unit are continuing to work to establish the circumstances of Ms Bates’ death.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

It comes just a few days after 28-year-old mother Molly Ticehurst was found dead in her NSW home.

The NSW government announced on Wednesday it was considering an overhaul of bail laws following revelations the man accused of murdering Ms Ticehurst was on bail for allegedly raping and stalking her.

“There are serious questions for the government to answer as to how the alleged offender was out on bail,” Premier Chris Minns said.

“We have a duty of care to alleged victims, particularly those awaiting justice through the criminal justice system.

“The government today, via the Attorney-General, will make a formal referral to the Crown Advocate seeking urgent advice in relation to this matter, for the government to determine whether urgent law reform is required in relation to bail laws in this state.”
