Manasi Gore relives terrifying Glen Waverley carjacking

A woman who was allegedly held at knifepoint before being stabbed and dragged 100m along a road in a horror carjacking in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs “begged” for her attackers to let her go.

Mancy Gore was sitting in her parked Mazda CX-9 on Kerrie Road in Glen Waverley about 8.40pm on March 17 when she was approached by two men.

The mother of three was waiting for her son to collect a pizza when one man opened the passenger side door and allegedly pointed a knife at her.

A second man then opened the driver’s door and allegedly demanded the woman get out before also threatening her with a knife.

“He had the knife at my throat and he said ‘if you scream I’ll hurt you’,” the 46-year-old told reporters on Monday.

She was then allegedly stabbed in the hand as she tried to reach for her house keys and then became stuck in the seat belt.

The second man then entered the driver’s side where police allege he drove the vehicle for approximately 100m up High Street Road while Ms Gore clung to the inner driver’s door handle.

“I screamed for my son and that’s when he saw me and started running towards me, but by then this guy had already taken off and I was dragged alongside the car.” she said.

“I was begging with them to just stop the car for a minute to get my seat belt off, and finally they did … I was just standing in the middle of the road … I was so dazed and just didn’t know what to do.

“I was terrified … I was just trying to survive the whole thing and to get out of there in one piece.”

Ms Gore was rushed to Dandenong Hospital with serious injuries.

She said doctors told her it was “no guarantee” she would regain sensation in her left pinky finger after the knife cut through nerve tendons.

She also suffered abrasions on her left foot from being dragged along the road.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old from Roxburgh Park on March 25 and charged him with 19 offences, including aggravated carjacking.

He was remanded to appear before the Melbourne Children’s Court at a later date.

Detectives on Monday released CCTV footage in the hopes of identifying the second male involved in the shocking incident.

He is perceived to be African in appearance, about 183cm tall and was wearing a black puffer jacket, light grey track pants and black runners.

Detective Sergeant Katie Johnston condemned the alleged crimes as “disgusting and horrendous” and said they were part of a series of carjackings.

“This aggravated carjacking is particularly terrifying for the victim … she’s gone through a terrifying ordeal,” she said.

“The Southern Metro crime team have been investigating a series of carjackings which we believed are linked, and there’s approximately seven carjackings and we continue to investigate those.

“We believe one of the offenders who has already been charged is linked to those seven carjackings, and we believe there’s different co-offenders for the series.”

Anyone with information should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
