Woman, 55, tied up and beaten by car thieves in Melbourne

IN A brutally callous act, the burglars broke into a middle-aged woman’s home, viciously assaulted her and drove away in her car.

IN A brutally callous act, two men broke into a middle-aged woman’s home in broad daylight, assaulted her, tied her up and drove away in her car.

Police said the 55-year-old from Hillside in Melbourne’s northwest, suffered serious injuries in the attack and is now being treated in hospital.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an aggravated burglary and assault after they were told two men broke into the home sometime after 11am.

The men fled the scene in the victim’s car, a champagne-coloured VW Passat, registration VAK 158.

The road is being treated as a crime scene and has been cordoned off with police tape. Officers are yet to speak to the woman in hospital.
