A man has been fined more than $1100 after an unusual gender reveal party, which police claim could have been deadly.

Police were called to Franston Gardens Drive in Carrum Downs, in Melbourne’s southeast, around 2pm on Sunday afternoon following reports of hooning.

They found about 30 partygoers and children gathered on the street watching as a driver allegedly did burnouts while blue smoke billowed from the car’s tyres.

First constable Darcie Sword said the blue smoke was part of a baby gender reveal party.

Senior Sergeant Hulley told News Corp it was an extremely dangerous stunt that could have killed or seriously injured people.

He said that rather than looking after their children, parents were more concerned with filming the burnout.

“(I’m) totally gobsmacked that someone would be so stupid and that people would think that it’s a good idea,” the senior sergeant said.

“They could have been killed, they could have stepped in front of the car. (It’s) disgraceful behaviour and poor parenting.

“If anyone wants to have a gender reveal, have a cake instead.”

A 29-year old man from Frankston North had his Holden Commodore impounded and was slapped with a fine of $1120.50.

He is expected to be charged on summons with traffic offences.
