Two men arrested after police officer assaulted in Frankston

Two men have been arrested after a police sergeant was assaulted in a fight outside a takeaway shop in Melbourne’s south.

Two men have been arrested after a police sergeant was assaulted when trying to break up a fight in Melbourne’s south on Saturday morning.

It came after police were called to reports of the affray inside a Nepean Highway takeaway store in Frankston about 3am.

Police intervened and attempted to break up the fight. One officer stepped in between two men fighting and was assaulted for their trouble.

A 44-year-old man grappled with the police sergeant before they both fell to the ground, where the assault on the officer continued.

While the officer was on the ground, the two men involved continued to fight.

A revealing photo shows officers managed to get the situation under control and arrest both men. A 47-year-old man from Seaford was arrested at the scene and charged with affray.

Police released a photo of his arrest, which shows the shirtless, barefoot, and sweaty man being handcuffed by several female officers. He is currently under police guard in hospital.

A 44-year-old man from Frankston is also under police guard in hospital after he was arrested in relation to the affray and assaulting a police officer.

The officer was not physically injured during the incident.

Police believe a number of people involved in the fight, along with nearby onlookers, fled the scene when members arrived.
