Two dead from gunshot wounds in Mornington Peninsula as police search for man who allegedly fled scene

After finding two bodies with gunshot wounds, police are searching for a man who may be connected to the incident.

Police have found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds on Monday morning in the Melbourne suburb of Rye.

Afterreceiving triple-0 calls reporting a fatal shooting on Parson St at about 4am, police descended on the Mornington Peninsula suburb to find the pair at a residential address.

Despite first responders providing medical treatment, both were declared dead at the scene.

While the exact circumstances of the incident are yet to be determined, police believe a man and a woman attended the address and became involved in an altercation with the residents at the property.

“At this early stage in the investigation, it’s believed the parties involved were known to each other,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

It is not yet known what the motivation behind the altercation.

Police said a second male is believed to have fled the address before police arrived, and a search is currently underway to locate him.

“We are seeking to find the identity of that man and locate him,” said Victoria Police Detective Superintendent Serious Crime Division, Janet Stevenson.

Victoria Police are not aware whether the second man is armed, though the public have been warned to not to approach him.

“If you see someone that you believe may be involved, do not approach (the man), just call police,” Superintendant Stevenson said.

The deceased male is believed to be a 29-year-old man who lived at the property, while police are yet to formally identify the woman.

It’s understood the 29-year-old man was known to police.

Homicide squad detectives are investigating and have established a crime scene.

Police are appealing for information with anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam, CCTV footage or information urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
