There has been a spate of shootings in Victoria this week
IN THE past week there has been eight different shooting attacks in Victoria, with one man even being killed in the spate of gunfire.
THIS could be the worst month for gun violence in Victoria since 2014, with eight shootings in the first 10 days of March including one man being killed.
The spate of shootings across the state has led to a specific taskforce from Victoria Police to focus on the increase of incidents.
The worst month for gun violence since 2014 was October last year, when there were 12 shootings, including one fatality.
Fairfax Media reports March is on track to beat the number of shootings last October, making it the worst month for shootings since at least 2014.
The latest shooting was last night, when the driver of a black Audi fired at another car with a handgun.
Victoria Police say a Mazda was stopped at a Sunshine West intersection when the Audi pulled up beside it.
The two men in the Audi then drew their guns and the driver fired into the rear passenger side of the Mazda.
Nobody was injured and the Audi fled the scene.
Assistant Commissioner Stephen Fontana told 3AW shootings had increased significantly over the past eight months.
“We are getting a lot of gun play but I want to stress the majority of these attacks are not random, in most of these cases the victims are known to offenders. A small number may be family violence related but the majority tends to be drug related,” he said.
There were two shootings in Melbourne’s southeast on March 9, one was a case of mistaken identity.
Five shots sprayed a unit on Frawley Road in Hallam while three people were inside.
All three were uninjured.
Meanwhile, police established a crime scene at Noble Park after an incident with an air rifle.
A 25-year-old was shot after confronting an armed man outside his home.
“Basically he just started walking up to me with his hands behind his back, so I was slowly retreating and then he pulled out an air rifle and shot me straight in the back,” the victim told Nine News.
On March 8, a man was flown to hospital after a shooting in Geelong.
A 49-year-old man was shot when he approached a man outside his home in Lara.
Police were searching for the shooter after he fled the scene and the victim was in a stable condition in hospital.
On March 7 a woman, 23, was dropped at Geelong hospital with a single gunshot wound.

A man was killed on March 6 after he was shot inside a motel room in Kingsbury.
The Homicide Squad believed four men were in the hotel room when a single gun shot rang out.
The victim was in his 20s and his friends said he had a heart of gold and never had any enemies.
There were another three people injured in two separate shootings on March 5.
Two men were hospitalised after a shooting outside a bikie clubhouse in Melbourne.
The men, aged 38 and 37, were shot outside the Bros outlaw motorcycle gang clubhouse in Yarraville.
One man was believed to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.
In a separate incident, another man was found injured and taken to hospital after he was shot in the leg in Melbourne’s North.
