A man armed with a hammer has been arrested after he allegedly smashed windows in a popular shopping centre in Melbourne.
Police were called to Westfield Southland shopping centre on the Nepean Highway in Cheltenham about 8.40pm on Tuesday after reports of a man allegedly smashing shop windows with a hammer.
Police were quickly on the scene and arrested the man.
NewsWire understands two retailers temporarily closed their doors while the incident was unfolding, but the shopping centre did not enter lockdown.
The retailers reopened their doors shortly after the incident.
No injuries have been reported.
A 24-year-old Clayton man was arrested on Bay Rd and is being questioned by police.
