Horrifying CCTV has captured armed thugs attempting to smash their way into a family home in Victoria, using weapons to try and smash down the door.

Braybrook aggravated burglary

Terrifying footage has captured a gang of armed would-be burglars attempting to smash their way into a Victorian home while the terrified homeowners were inside.

Victoria Police confirmed five people, including two teenage boys, were since charged with more than 140 offences following a series of home invasions in Melbourne’s west last year.

The group were allegedly involved in the horrifying attempted break and enter which was captured on CCTV while the homeowners were inside.

CCTV footage captures a group of intruders, clad in black and carrying various weapons, attempted to barge their way into the Braybrook home, in Melbourne’s west, in October last year.

Some members are seen on the CCTV footage smashing the front door, one using an axe to break holes in the glass.

He is joined by others wielding various other weapons – one of them a pole – as they try to break down the door.

At one point, the owners’ hand can be seen poking out the glass, then retracting as one of the axe-wielding men continues his rampage.

After several minutes, the group give up and flee in a waiting vehicle which had knocked down the owners’ gate.

Resident Nayran Tabiei told the Herald Sun of her horrifying ordeal, including how she still struggled to sleep a year after.

“I came from the war to be safe here, and it’s not even safe here,” she said.

On Saturday, police confirmed they had charged three men, aged 18, with about 30 offences each including multiple counts of aggravated home invasion, burglary, theft of motor car and intentionally causing injury.

Two teens, aged 16 and 17, were also charged with more than 45 offences including aggravated home invasion and theft of motor car.

Two of the 18-year-old men charged, from Footscray and Caroline Springs, were bailed by the courts and will return to Melbourne Magistrate’ Court on March 25.

The third 18-year-old man, also from Caroline Springs, was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on March 25.

The 16-year-old and 17-year-old boys charged were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit Senior Constable Samantha D’agostino said the arrests followed an extensive investigation by police.

“Everyone has a right to feel safe and secure in their own home,” she said.

“We take these kinds of offences extremely seriously and will investigate thoroughly until we can hold people to account.”

The CCTV footage from Baybrook emerges as two teenagers appeared in court earlier this week over the unrelated alleged murder of well-known Melbourne doctor Ash Gordon in Doncaster.

Dr Gordon, 33, was fatally injured when he confronted thieves who had allegedly broken into his home last Saturday.

Two boys, both 16, were arrested on Wednesday and fronted court the following day.

Superintendent Janet Stevenson said investigators had worked “tirelessly” to “apprehend those responsible for his tragedy”.

“We know that Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. This arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope that it will alleviate some of their distress,” she said.

“We will continue to provide all the support they require during this difficult time.”
