Teens allegedly armed with swords have attacked a convenience store worker in Melbourne’s CBD, leaving him with serious injuries.
Two teens armed with swords have allegedly attacked a Melbourne convenience store worker, leaving him unable to use his hand for the next 12 months.
Mohammed Panihani, 35, was working at an Ezi Mart on Swanston St in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday night when two teenage boys entered the store demanding cash and cigarettes, 7News reported.
Mr Panhani tried to fend the teens off with a mallet while they waved their swords at him slashing his hand, before fleeing the store.
Witnesses rushed to help the convenience store worker who has only been in Australia from Jordan for six months completing his PhD at university.
Mr Panihani told 7News he felt like he was going to die during the attack.
“It happened very quick,” he said.
“I saw all the wound outside, the blood, the muscle.
“She jumped on my hand and she tried to stop the bleeding.
“I couldn’t move, I heard everything, I couldn’t even move my tongue.”
Doctors told Mr Panihani he will need ongoing surgery after his hand was cut in half by the offenders.
Ezi Mart owner Mohammed Abualfoul said his employees were now scared to work at the store following the alleged attack on Mr Panihani.
“They told me they do not want to work alone, especially on the night shift,” he said.
Two 18 years-old have since been charged.
