Teenage girl target of horrifying attack, robbery at Frankston Skate Park
A TEENAGE girl had her hair set alight and was kicked in the face and body by kids as young as 12 during a gang robbery at a skate park.
A TEENAGE girl had her hair set alight and was kicked repeatedly in the face and body as she lay cowering on the ground during a terrifying robbery at Frankston Skate Park.
Police say a 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and assault in relation to the horror attack which occurred just three hours after he was granted bail on other charges.
The boy was among a group of seven youths aged between 12 and 14 who allegedly assaulted the 15-year-old girl on August 5.
Police allege the group lured the girl to the Cranbourne Rd park about 9pm.
Frankston detective Senior-Constable Ryan Collins said a girl allegedly started throwing chocolates at the victim before another girl pushed her to the ground and punched her.
“We believe a boy then kicked her repeatedly in the face and body while she was on the ground,” Sen-Constable Collins said.
“It is alleged a male then demanded her bag and mobile phone while another teen used his cigarette lighter to set her hair alight.
“The group then ran off with her bag.”
The girl managed to run home and was taken to Frankston Hospital with a fractured right hand and serious swelling and bruising to her face.
Frankston police have now arrested and charged the alleged offenders — four 14-year olds, two 13-year olds and a 12-year old.
The boys and girls face a range of charges including robbery, armed robbery, assault and breaching bail.
One aged 13 and another 12-year-old have been remanded in custody while the remainder have been bailed to reappear in Children’s Court at later dates.
The arrests come after a police call for the justice system to increase punishment for child recidivist offenders, first reported at frankstonleader.com.au.
Police say they are frustrated as they are repeatedly forced to arrest children committing crimes while already granted bail — some as many as nine times.
The have also recently expressed concern about the number of frightening standover attacks in Frankston.
Two Frankston men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested over an attack at the skate park on June 14 which left two teenagers injured.
