A MAN shot in the stomach in Geelong, Victoria, last night told rescuers he felt like he “was bleeding to death”.

The 36-year-old was killed after he was shot in the stomach after an altercation with the driver of a car on Anakie Rd, in the Geelong suburb of Bell Post Hill, southwest of Melbourne.

Police said this morning it was unclear if the shooting was targeted or was a random killing.

Witnesses have told of seeing the victim, who was with a woman, “waving his arms” at a car before the 11pm shooting, the Today show reported.

One resident spoke to him before he died. He told her “I feel like I’m bleeding to death. I can’t breathe.”

Police are treating the death late on Tuesday night as a homicide and have not made any arrests. They have appealed with anyone with information about the occupant of the vehicle to come forward.

Homicide detectives and forensics teams remain at the scene this morning, but the road is expected to reopen soon.

A neighbour told the Geelong Advertiser: “I heard the shot but didn’t know if it was someone banging on their door. There was an argument going on and the next thing I heard was bang and the sheila carrying on.”

Police have not released any details about the man’s identity as his next of kin have still not been informed.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
