A MAN wanted over a brutal axe attack murder in St Kilda is believed to have been spotted at the notorious Gatwick Hotel.
Earl Jones, 29, was seen on the roof of the Fitzroy St halfway house this afternoon.
A large number of police descended on the scene but no arrests were made.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said: “Police attended Fitzroy Street St. Kilda following reports a male was on the roof of the building this afternoon.
“Police arrived around 4pm and conducted a search of the building.
“No person was located and police have since left the area.”
The Critical Incident Response Team and an ambulance helicopter were also deployed.
Officers have now cleared the scene.
Police believe Mr Jones may be able to help them find out more about the death of 45-year-old Stephan Lowry, whose body was found at The Regal boarding home in Little Grey St yesterday.
A passerby told the Herald Sun she was ready to leave the area.
“It’s scary,” she said.
