Police arrest man hiding in hairdressing salon
CLIENTS of a hairdressing salon in Melbourne’s north-west suburbs were shocked when police stormed the business, punching and tackling a man to the ground.
A MAN trying to hide from police in a hairdressing salon was tackled and arrested this afternoon as shocked clients watched on.
Police were hunting for the man after spotting an alleged stolen truck in Sunbury, north-west of Melbourne. They attempted to intercept the vehicle but the truck allegedly drove at police, failed to stop and continued on.
Later, the stolen truck was spotted on the Calder Highway and at Watergardens Shopping Centre in Taylors Lakes in Melbourne’s north-west.
Police chased a man and a woman into the shopping centre.
The 24-year Greenvale man tried to hide in a hairdressing salon, but police spotted him and arrested him.
“I was about to start doing a haircut and the guy, whoever he was, he came running in and sat down,” the hairdresser told 9News.
“He was huffing and puffing, he had been running, clearly someone was chasing him.
“Next thing you know, the police ran in and tackled him. A lot of punches were thrown, a few kicks — it was quite violent.”
The 24-year-old Kyneton woman was arrested at a nearby travel agent.
Both of them are in custody and assisting police with their inquiries.
