Murderer Scott Alan Murdoch found dead inside cell at Melbourne Assessment Centre

A notorious killer who murdered a mother and also cut a grandmother’s throat has been found dead in his prison cell.

A notorious murderer who killed a Melbourne mother-of-three has been found dead in prison.

Scott Alan Murdoch, who received a life sentence last year for the 2013 murder of Kylie Blackwood, was found in dead in the cell of Melbourne Assessment Centre about 6am on Monday, sources confirmed.

Victoria Police said Homicide Squad members were investigating the death of a 43-year-old prisoner.

“The exact circumstances relating to the death have yet to be determined,” a spokesperson said.

“It is standard procedure for all deaths in custody to be investigated by the Homicide Squad.”

Scott Alan Murdoch was found in dead in the cell of Melbourne Assessment Centre on Monday.

A Department of Justice and Community Service said the matter had been referred to the Coroner.

Ms Blackwood was stabbed to death in her Pakenham home in a suspected burglary gone wrong.

Her body was found by her 11-year-old twin sons when they returned home from school.

Murdoch was sentenced to a minimum of 36 years behind bars and a further 10 years for an earlier attack in which he stabbed grandmother Ilona Prohaska in the neck and left her to die.

Kylie Blackwood was brutally murdered.

It was revealed throughout Murdoch’s trial that he was on bail at the time of the attack and had a long history of violence against women.

In 1998, Murdoch also left a teenage boy “lifeless” and gurgling blood after a vicious beating.

Murdoch, then aged 20, was sentenced to six months in jail over an onslaught which left the young victim with brain injuries and memory loss.
