Police suspect foul play after a young man’s body was discovered by cleaners in a short-stay Melbourne apartment.

On Thursday, Victoria Police revealed the homicide squad has been called in after the post-mortem examination of the 22-year-old from Kings Park in Melbourne’s northwest raised suspicions.

The man was found unresponsive in an apartment on Flinders Street in the CBD on Saturday.

“Emergency services were called to a report of an unresponsive man in a Flinders Street apartment shortly after 10.30am,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“He was treated at the scene but passed away.”

A post-mortem examination of the body has led police to treat the incident as suspicious, the spokeswoman said.

She said the circumstances surrounding his death were unclear and called on anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
