Michael Ashlin: Victorian fugitive arrested ‘without incident’ after allegedly breaching parole

A Victorian man has been taken into custody 10 days after fugitive squad detectives appealed for public help.

A Victorian man has been arrested after allegedly breaching parole conditions and removing a monitoring device.

Michael Ashlin, 40, was arrested on Thursday in the regional town of Glenaladale “without incident” following a manhunt, according to Victoria Police.

“He will now be interviewed by police,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.”

On June 10, Fugitive Squad detectives issued an appeal for public help locating Mr Ashlin, saying the 40-year-old was wanted on a warrant.

They asked for anyone with information on his whereabouts to not approach him and instead contact triple-0.

“He is known to frequent the Bairnsdale and Melbourne areas, and investigators believe he has recently been sighted in Greensborough, Watsonia and Bundoora,’ a police spokesman said at the time.

“Detectives are also urging Ashlin to make contact with police or hand himself in at any police station as soon as possible.”

Mr Ashlin was last seen wearing a grey jacket, jeans, a black T-shirt and a black cap and was believed to be travelling in a black Toyota Prado.

He was described as being about 186cm tall, with grey hair and a grey goatee beard.

Glenaladale is a rural town close to Bairnsdale in Victoria’s East Gippsland region.
