A MELBOURNE motorist has described a brazen, peak hour attack in which two men threatened him with a knife before stealing his Nissan Skyline.

James, the owner of the Skyline, told Melbourne radio station 3AW he was driving on the Western Ring Rd near Laverton North shortly after 6.15am when he came across a minor crash between a red Holden Commodore and a truck

James said he stopped to check the motorists were unharmed before they turned on him, pulled out a knife, threatened to stab him and stole his vehicle.

Herald Sun photographs from the scene show a baseball bat resting in the front passenger seat of the Commodore which was left at the scene.

A truck driver who witnessed the incident said another motorist was lucky to escape without injury when the Skyline took off towards the West Gate Bridge.

“There was obviously an accident because traffic was banked up,” the witness told 3AW.

“As I approached, I seen a bloke running from the crash car, jumped into a white Skyline and they booted it. They aimed the car straight at the driver (of the truck) and I’m pretty sure that they hit him. I’m not too sure, that’s all I’ve seen. He just booted it onto the West Gate (Bridge) and he was gone.”

Victoria Police said the Skyline clipped the truck driver but he was not injured.

Police are searching for the two men who stole the Skyline. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The incident comes a day after two people died in a fiery Western Ring Road crash. Harley Churchill, 19, and Ivana Clonaridis, 18, both died in the crash. Police believe speed was a factor.
