Manhunt underway after gunshots fired at home while kids asleep
A manhunt is underway after a suburban house was littered with bullets in the early hours of Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
Police are searching for a gunman who allegedly sprayed a suburban Melbourne home with bullets while children were asleep inside.
Emergency services were called to a property on Burnewang St in Albion in Melbourne’s west about 5.30 Sunday morning after reports of shots fired.
Nearly a dozen gunshots were fired into the home, bullets sprayed across windows and bricks while a family were inside.
It’s understood up to 12 people were in the home when the gunfire occurred, including children who were asleep in their bunk beds, with bullets being fired into the nearby window.
A neighbour recalled hearing gunshots in the early hours of the morning and rushed to the window, witnessing a car speeding away.
“There are a lot of young kids in there and somebody has fired shots knowing there are kids in there,” they told the Herald Sun.
“There are bunkbeds in the window, kid bunkbeds and those f**kers have shot through the house.”
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, however, the gunman is still at large.
“The unknown offender/s fled the scene and investigations remain ongoing,” a statement from Victoria Police read.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV, dashcam or any other information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
