A WITNESS who saw a drive-by shooting outside an Airport West gym says the victim was shot in the back by masked men who fled the scene in a black Mercedes.
The man was outside a gym on Louis Street in Airport West when he was shot about 5.30pm last night.
He was taken to Royal Melbourne hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in a stable condition.
Ambulance Victoria said the man sustained injuries to his upper body. Police are investigating at the scene and have established a cordon.
A witness who wished to remain anonymous said he had witnessed the brazen shooting this afternoon.
“Two guys pulled up in a black Merc and they were both wearing masks,” he told the Herald Sun.
“They waited for the guy to come out and as soon as they did the passenger shot him twice in the back.”
The witness, who just finished a workout, said people rushed to his aid and were screaming for help.
“Two people ran over to him and wrapped a towel around his stomach to stop the bleeding,” he said.
“The guy was on the ground yelling, ‘I’m in pain, I’m in pain’”.
It’s understood the offenders sped off and are still on the run.
