Man fighting for life in hospital after alleged stabbing in heart of Melbourne overnight

Blood splatters have covered parts of the pavement following an alleged violent stabbing in the middle of a busy city’s CBD, with one man now fighting for life.

A man is fighting for life after allegedly being stabbed in Melbourne’s CBD overnight.

In a statement, Victoria Police said the man became involved in a verbal altercation with a second man on Elizabeth St in the city’s CBD about 9:20pm on Wednesday.

The man, in his 30s, was allegedly stabbed after the altercation took a violent turn.

Paramedics rushed him to The Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with upper body injuries.

A 21-year-old man is now assisting officers with their inquiries.

Police shut down a tram stop on the busy CBD street and closed off a section of the side walk.

One officer was spotted taking photos of splattered blood on the ground while others spoke to members of the public.

Large swathes of the area were covered in police tape during investigations.
