Man dead after Melbourne stabbing

POLICE are hunting a woman believed to be involved in a fatal stabbing in Melbourne last night.

A MAN has been killed after a fight with a woman on a street in Melbourne last night.

The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was stabbed with a weapon about 9.20pm. When police and paramedics arrived at Victoria St, in inner-east Abbotsford, they found the man clinging to life with an injury to his upper body.

He was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital but couldn’t be saved.

It’s believed the man and the woman had fought at the nearby Bakers Arms Hotel earlier in the night.

Police believe he knew his attacker, but no arrests have been made and officers are appealing for witnesses to urgently come forward.

A spokesman for the Bakers Arms Hotel told news.com.au staff had no knowledge of the incident. “It has nothing to do with us here.”

The stabbing scene is close to the proposed drug injecting centre that was announced by the Victorian Government yesterday.

City of Yarra mayor Amanda Stone told The Herald SunVictoria St was like a “war zone” due to the public drug use.

“It’s felt like a war zone down here for local traders and residents,” she said.

“They’re facing the consequences of public drug use everyday, picking up syringes, they’re calling ambulances and doing CPR.”

More to come.
