Man charged with shooting murder on Princes Highway, Geelong
A man has been charged with the daylight shooting murder of Daniel Eagle, 43, who died on a major Melbourne highway.
A Victorian man refused to front court after he was charged with gunning down another man on a highway.
Joshua Rozynski did not appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday after he was charged with murder over the shooting of Daniel Eagle.
Instead, the 26-year-old man chose to remain in his cell.
Police allege Mr Eagle, 43, was shot on the Princes Highway at Harpur Road in the Geelong suburb of Corio just after 6am on Saturday. He died at the scene.
The pair were known to each other, according to a police summary.
Mr Rozynski’s lawyer told the court it was the first time her client had been in custody.
Material including CCTV footage needed to be analysed and formatted, the court was told on Monday.
It’s alleged Mr Eagle was the passenger of a vehicle involved in a crash with a truck before he was shot.
A second man, 25, also from Corio, was released pending further inquiries.
Friends took to social media over the weekend to grieve for Mr Eagle.
“Daniel, you will be missed but forever with us,” one post read.
Another said: “Sorry my brother that this has happened to you.”
The other two occupants of the vehicle Mr Eagle was in were rushed to hospital with minor injuries from the crash.
The truck driver was not injured.
Mr Rozynski will return to court in August.
