Police are appealing for witnesses after three men allegedly tried to steal a man’s necklace in broad daylight, bashing him when he refused.
Police are appealing for information over a violent attempted robbery that took place in broad daylight last month.
Three men approached another man and his friend in Batman Park, central Melbourne, about 1pm on July 24.
Police say one of the men grabbed the alleged victim’s necklace and bashed him when he refused to hand it over.
The man broke the victim’s necklace in the process.
Police say the victim and his friend were able to get away before the wannabe thieves fled through the Melbourne CBD.
Police from Embona Taskforce, which is dedicated to investigating robberies, have released images of three men they would like to talk to who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The first man is believed to be caucasian in appearance, about 20-25 years old, of average height and build with a light-brown mullet.
He was seen wearing a green baseball cap, a gold puffer jacket, torn jeans, and red runners.
The second man is also believed to be caucasian in appearance, approximately 20-25 years old, of average height and build with short dark hair.
He was seen wearing a grey Calvin Klein hooded jumper, a black puffer jacket, tan shorts, and black runners.
The third man is about 30 years old, believed to be caucasian in appearance, skinny and average height with medium-length brown hair.
He was wearing a black FILA jumper, black Nike tracksuit pants and black and white Nike runners.
Batman Park, where the alleged attempted robbery took place, is on the northern bank of the Yarra River opposite the Crown Casino.
The park is a popular spot for barbecues and relaxing but has been the scene of trouble before after five men were arrested following a daytime brawl there in 2019.
