Man bashed at popular Melbourne cafe in disturbing video

The owner of the cafe where the attack occurred says the disturbing incident is a sign of out-of-control violence in the CBD.

Man targeted at Melbourne CBD cafe

A Melbourne business owner says a recent attack at his popular cafe has highlighted the worsening violence in the CBD.

A man was chased by about 10 people down La Trobe St on Saturday about 9pm, before he was kicked and pushed outside of Homm Dessert, The Herald Sun reported.

The man ran inside the cafe for help, it is understood, but the group followed, slamming him into a glass door.

Worrying video of the altercation was posted on social media and shows customers and staff attempting to break up the fight.

Homm Dessert owner Bass Sakdatorn was working from home when he got a call from the cafe and raced down to help.

He took to social media to vent his frustration at what he says is out-of-control violence in the CBD.

“What I know from one of my team members is that there were about seven to 10 people just jumping one guy outside,” he said on Instagram.

“He ran into the shop to seek safety and he was kicked and pushed into the glass door so hard that the glass door chipped.

“They were throwing things as well … they started bashing him up … they continued to bash that one guy up for about a minute.”

Mr Sakdatorn said the alleged attackers ran off before police arrived. He added that no staff were injured in the brawl.

“This is why we can’t have nice things in Melbourne anymore,” Mr Sakdatorn said.

“I feel like no one deserves to actually see violence that close.

“Seeing a person getting jumped one to two metres away is actually pretty bad.”

He said Melbourne was fast becoming the “most dangerous” city in Australia.

The condition of the man who was attacked is unknown.

Crime stats, obtained by The Herald Sun show offences on Elizabeth Street increased 50 per cent over the past five years.
