Gunman on run after shooting at Melbourne shopping centre

A MAN has died after a gunman opened fire in a Melbourne shopping centre car park in broad daylight and then sped off.

A MAN has died after a gunman fired several shots at him in a daylight attack at a Melbourne shopping centre.

The shooting happened at Campbellfield Plaza just after 3.30pm on Monday. Police were told a man with a firearm approached his victim in the car park, then fired a number of times.

The wounded man was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he later died.

No one else was injured.

Witnesses told the Nine Network the offender walked up to the victim in the shopping centre’s carpark and shot him several times in the leg.

The shooter took off in a red car, heading towards the Dallas area and remains on the loose Tuesday morning.

Police were told more shots were fired a short time later near the intersection of Riggall and Blair Streets, Broadmeadows.

It believed those shots were fired into the air.

A car matching the same description — a red Holden Commodore — was also seen in that area.

The investigation has been handed to homicide detectives.
