Fugitive wanted by NSW Police arrested in Victoria

A man who allegedly assaulted a female police officer while in custody in NSW has been arrested over the border in Victoria.

A man who was on the run from NSW police for more than a month after allegedly assaulting an officer while in custody has been arrested in Victoria.

The 27-year-old man is accused of assaulting a female officer while in custody at Griffith Police Station on March 25 before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.

He was arrested by fugitive squad detectives about 10.30am on Wednesday at a property in Robinvale, just over the NSW-Victoria border.

NSW detectives arrived in Mildura on Wednesday when an application for the man’s extradition was granted.

The man was also hit with a court attendance notice for possessing a shortened firearm and prohibited drugs.

He was remanded to face Wentworth Local Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a woman accused of playing a role in the man’s initial fleeing from Griffith Police Station remains before the courts.

The 42-year-old was arrested in Griffith in her home after the man fled.

The man’s extradition was executed by Strike Force Cobra, an arm of the NSW serious crime squad targeting violent and high-risk fugitives.
