Former emergency services minister attacked on Melbourne street
THE beleaguered former Victorian emergency services minister, Jane Garrett, has allegedly been attacked on a Melbourne street.
THE former Victorian emergency services minister was allegedly attacked on a Melbourne street late yesterday afternoon.
Labor MP Jane Garrett, 43, suffered minor injuries during the incident in Drummond St, Carlton, police said.
A 52-year-old woman was arrested last night and was being interviewed by police, 9 News reported.
Ms Garrett reportedly had her hair pulled and an attempt was made to push her through a plate-glass window.
The Herald Sun reported patrons of a nearby pub came to help her, while the attacker fled on foot.
Several politicians, including Liberal MP Margaret Fitzherbert and Greens MP Ellen Sandell, tweeted messages of support for Ms Garrett.

Ms Garrett told the Herald Sun: “I’m in shock. It was very frightening. I am grateful for the outstanding professionalism of the police.”
The incident was captured on the pub’s CCTV.
Ms Garrett resigned as emergency services minister in June as a result of the Country Fire Authority pay deal dispute.
A deal was eventually endorsed by the newly appointed CFA board last Friday.
