Family of Jackson Gilmour, 29, searching for answers after tradie shot dead in horrific home invasion
The family of a 29-year-old tradie shot dead in Victoria are still looking for answers to the motive behind the horrific home invasion.
Victorian tradesman Jackson Gilmour, 29, has been identified as the victim of a deadly home invasion in Rye, an attack that has left his family and friends in disbelief.
Mr Gilmour was asleep at his Parson St home early on Monday morning when a man and woman armed with a rifle broke in shortly after 4am.
As the intruders entered, a female guest at the home ran to the bathroom to call the police as Mr Gilmour confronted the armed pair.
The female intruder allegedly attacked him with a baton and demanded he hand over his wallet and personal belongings as she searched through his drawers.
Mr Gilmour then shot the female intruder, but was then shot by the male assailant, who fled the scene and remains at large.
Both Gilmour and the female intruder were treated by paramedics but were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Gilmour’s family are still in shock and are seeking clarity on the events leading up to his death, according to the Daily Mail.
Mr Gilmour, known to friends as “Jack”, had lived in the area for over a decade and worked as a tradesman alongside his family, which is involved in local construction and plumbing businesses.
The Herald Sun on Tuesday afternoon identified the female intruder as Charlyze Hayter as devastated friends left heartbroken tributes.
Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson confirmed that the incident was targeted, with both Mr Gilmour and the intruders believed to have been acquainted.
Police are still searching for the unidentified male assailant, who may still be armed and could have used a getaway vehicle.
“We don’t know if there is still a firearm outstanding [and] we presume there was a getaway car,” she said on Monday.
“We are seeking to find out the identity of the man and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in that area this morning who may have seen something.”
The shocking deaths have shaken the local community in Rye, a typically quiet, affluent suburb just south of Melbourne, where residents report hearing nothing unusual at the time of the incident.
Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to come forward.
