Deer Park ‘serious’ incident unfolding

POLICE have descended on Deer Park after reports of a serious incident, reportedly a shooting.

A MAN has been charged following a daylight shooting which killed a 37-year-old man in Deer Park yesterday.

Homicide detectives arrested a 48-year-old Deer Park man at the scene and charged him with one count of murder.

He will face the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court later today.

Victoria Police say the deceased man was found after 2pm at Poole Street in Deer Park.

Neighbours reported hearing two gun shots at the scene where police have found a body in Deer Park.

Poole St resident Stefan Attard said he was watching TV when he heard the gun fire.

“I was just watching TV and I heard a big bang and then a second one. I just thought it was a car,” he said.

Mr Attard said that he was shocked when he heard there was a fatal shooting in his street.

“It was terrifying, just terrifying, you can’t even walk out your front door anymore,” he said.

There was a break between the two shots, he said.

“I heard two shots. The first one and then there was about a minute and there was a second.”

Police have taped off the street and a State Emergency Services tent has been set up outside a property where the shooting happened.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the man’s death are yet to be determined.
