Carly Pirronelli was on bail when she stabbed mum Joanne Perry to death, as her court history is revealed
A young woman shot dead by police as she stabbed her own mother to death was previously charged over a home invasion in suburban Melbourne.
A young woman shot dead by police while she fatally stabbed her mother in suburban Melbourne was previously charged over a home invasion.
Officers gunned down Carly Pirronelli, 26, on Kett St, Lower Plenty about 6:30pm on Friday night after arriving to find her armed with a knife.
She used the weapon to repeatedly stab her mother, Joanne Perry, and continued the deadly attack as police called for her to drop the knife.
Superintendent Scott Colson said police were left with “no other option” but to discharge their firearms.
“(Police) were confronted with the daughter stabbing the mother and have called on the daughter to drop the knife,” he said.
“However, she continued to stab the mother … tragically, both the mother and the daughter died on the scene.”
Last year, Pirronelli faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court charged with allegedly entering a Kingsbury home with “intent to assault a person” on February 21, 2023.
The charge was later withdrawn in court but prosecutors pursued a separate offence of cannabis possession.
Court records show Pirronelli was also set to face a hearing at Wodonga Magistrates’ Court on April 23.
Police said she was on bail at the time of her death and horrific final act.
It appears the youth worker mother and her daughter previously had a good relationship, with pictures posted to social media showing them posing with drinks and in front of a Christmas tree.
The Daily Mail reported a poignant exchange Pirronelli and Ms Perry, 53, shared on a Facebook almost four years ago.
Pirronelli commented on a meme posted on the World of Bongs page, which showed a gravesite with marijuana plants growing out of it.
“How my grave will look,” it was captioned.
Pirronelli tagged her mother saying “next to your cascade bottles and marks guitar (sic).”
“OMG haha,” her mother replied.
Homicide Squad detectives are investigating Friday’s incident, which will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
Ms Perry is the 17th woman killed in Australia this year and the fourth to be slain this month.
