A SHOTGUN-WIELDING robber was no match for the manager of an adult store, who fought back and hit the man with a machete.

A SHOTGUN-WIELDING robber was no match for the manager of an adult store who fought back and hit the man with a machete.

Police said the manager swung the machete and connected twice with the man’s head, before the injured man fled through the back door at Night Moods adult store in Boronia, in Melbourne’s east, about 7.20pm on Friday, August 4.

Knox detective Acting Senior Sergeant Adam McFarlane said the would-be robber entered through the rear entrance wielding a sawn-off shotgun.

He said the man allegedly pointed the gun at the manager and demanded drugs.

The manager pulled out a machete and struck twice, leaving the man with serious head injuries.

The robber then ran off through the back door and fled in a car, Snr-Sgt McFarlane said.

“He later attended hospital of his own accord and had treatment,” he said.

The Police Special Operations Group tracked the alleged offender and arrested him out the front of Maxi Foods Supermarket on Burwood Highway, Upper Ferntree Gully about 3.30pm on Monday, August 14.

The 46-year-old Knoxfield man appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on August 15 and was remanded in custody until a further bail application on August 28.

The man is facing a long list of charges including armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, threat to inflict serious injury, assault with a weapon, possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing cannabis, cultivate narcotic plant and commit indictable offence while on bail.

Snr-Sgt McFarlane said the Night Moods manager was defending himself and was not being investigated.

The manager told Leader he was physically uninjured but was still battling the emotional toll.

He was back at work but said he was not ready to talk about the incident.
