Teacher Elisa Errichiello accused of historical sexual abuse

A piece of evidence could be a key part of the case of a Melbourne teacher accused of historical sexual assaults at a suburban school.

What happens after a sexual assault?

A Melbourne teacher accused of historical sex crimes plans to grill witnesses about a principal’s letter that could be a key part of the case.

Elisa Errichiello faces 26 charges, including multiple counts of sexual assault, over a four-year period dating back more than 20 years ago.

The 50-year-old has been stood down from her role at Rosehill Secondary College and appeared via video link in front of the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a brief hearing on Friday.

Two school friends of the alleged victim were due to be probed about what they knew, but the court was told they “didn’t know about anything”.

Elisa Errichiello is charged with more than two dozen historical sex abuse offences.

Instead, defence lawyer John Malia said he was planning on quizzing a man about a “letter from the principal”.

He also wanted to question a woman who lived overseas because she “attempts to corroborate the complainant’s story”.

However if she could not be reached for the hearing to test evidence they could go ahead without her, Mr Malia said.

That hearing will go ahead in October and is expected to last for three days.

Ms Errichiello’s teaching registration was suspended in April.
