A MOTHER made the fatal mistake of giving a killer her son’s address.

But never did she think the trusted family friend would brutally stab her 30-year-old son, Garry Coulson.

The man was at a home in Myrtle St in Werribee, Victoria, when he was attacked July last year.

The home belonged to his cousin and he was temporarily living there with his girlfriend.

His mother Patricia Coulson, described him as a gentle giant but admitted he had a lot of problems with drugs.

Daniel Nathan Parry, 37, was arrested over the murder and he admitted to his role in Mr Coulson’s death, pleading guilty on Monday to an amended murder charge — unintentional killing the course or furtherance of a crime of violence.

Ms Coulson was at her sister’s house on July 5 last year when Parry phoned and asked for her son’s temporary address.

Parry then showed up with two other men and again asked where Mr Coulson was, she told the hearing on Monday.

Parry, who was acting “totally normal”, told Ms Coulson he wanted to give her son some money and catch up with him, she said.

Ms Coulson said she gave the Werribee address to Parry, but also warned: “You better not go up there and hurt him”.

“I wouldn’t have given Daniel the address if I had known what Daniel was going to do,” a teary Ms Coulson said.

Parry, of Darley, was a family friend and had worked with Ms Coulson’s other son, Michael, she told the court.

“He used to always hang out with the boys ... and I trusted him.”

Mr Coulson’s sister, Bernadette Lees, said Parry rang them again later that night.

“(He said) ‘You better ring an ambulance because it doesn’t look too nice up here’,” she told the court.

Two co-accused, Andrew David Lacey, 23, and Edward Charles Hewett, 22, are facing a committal hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with murder.

Lacey and Hewett are also accused of bringing a baseball bat to the Werribee address, court documents show.

The committal hearing will resume on Tuesday, with Mr Coulson’s brother Michael Lees to testify.
