Elliott Harvey, 26, was enjoying a Friday night out at a Brunswick nightclub when he was allegedly set upon by a group of thugs who did not like his haircut.
Three men allegedly began verbally abusing the Rosebud man outside the club, about 10pm on May 26.
Today Brent Moresco, 19, and Bradley Jeffries, 21, appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with assaulting Mr Harvey.
The men, both from Wonthaggi, are charged with affray, intention to cause serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and other assault-related charges.
Just before midnight, the three men approached Mr Harvey inside the club, pushing and shoving him until security staff stepped in and broke up the scuffle, police said.

Mr Harvey suffered serious injuries in the alleged assault, which resulted in him losing sight in his right eye.
He has had two operations and has not been able to resume work.
“It was so pointless and trivial,” Mr Harvey said.
“I don’t know why they took offence to me.
“They said something about my haircut.”
Outside court a photographer and cameraman were knocked to the ground following a scuffle with a large press pack.
A man with Mr Jeffries lashed out at the pack, causing the men to fall.
Channel 7 cameraman Jared Mason suffered a serious blow to his head after being knocked to the ground.
In their haste to make a quick getaway supporters of Mr Jeffries collided with a vehicle but didn’t stop before driving away.
Both Mr Jeffries and Mr Moresco are on bail and will return to court in October.
