Numurkah shooting: Andrew Paterson faces court charged with murder
A man accused of a fatal shooting in Victoria’s north has faced a court, with his lawyer telling a magistrate there was “forensic material” that needed to be processed.
A man accused of a fatal shooting faced a court in regional Victoria charged with murder.
Andrew Paterson is charged with murder and appeared in the Shepparton Magistrates Court for a brief filing hearing on Friday afternoon.
The 58-year-old Caniambo man was charged with the murder of 55-year-old Richard Paul Devlin, the court was told on Friday.
The Numurkah man was fatally shot outside his property on Prentice Lane about 8.50pm on August 5, Victoria Police said in a statement.
No details of the lead-up to the alleged murder were aired in court.
Mr Paterson needed medication for depression, adjustment disorder and blood pressure, his defence lawyer told the court on Friday.
It was also the accused man’s first time in custody, the court heard.
There was also a significant amount of “forensic material” that needed to be processed, the court was told.
Both parties are believed to be known to each other, Victoria Police previously said.
Mr Paterson is expected to face court again in January 2022.
