Man in court accused of randomly attacking woman in Melbourne’s CBD
A man has appeared in court accused of brutally attacking a woman in broad daylight in the middle of Melbourne’s CBD.
A homeless man accused of randomly attacking a woman in broad daylight as she walked along the street in Melbourne’s CBD has appeared in court.
Robert Tilbrook appeared via video link from prison in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He faces several charges, including intentionally causing serious injury and intentionally cause serious injury in circumstances of gross violence.
He is facing allegations he randomly attacked a 54-year-old woman while she walked along Exhibition St near Flinders Lane about 8am in January.
The woman suffered critical facial and head injuries before nearby tradies rushed to her aid.
Mr Tilbrook, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene.
During his last court hearing the 44-year-old refused to listen in on the hearing and yelled out indecipherable sentences.
His lawyer told the court that Tilbrook had cried aggressively and erratically in the cells and needed to be seen by a custody nurse.
He sat silent from his cell on Tuesday as prosecutors asked the court for an adjournment as they combed through evidence.
He was remanded in custody and the matter will return to court on July 4.
