Scott Alan Murdoch, 38, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates Court briefly on Tuesday charged with murdering the 42-year-old mother, whose children found her bleeding to death three years ago.
As he was led out of the dock, the Member for Bass, Brian Paynter, stood up and pointed at Murdoch, telling him he would “pay”.
“You’re a coward, you will get what’s coming to you,” Mr Paynter, a Blackwood family friend, said.
“You’re a gutless coward.” Murdoch, of Morewell, turned around slightly during the outburst, but did not verbally respond.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded to reappear in August.
Magistrate Donna Bakos noted Murdoch had type one diabetes and required insulin, and was taking medication for depression.
The court also heard police would put together telephone transcripts related to the case and format relevant CCTV.
Ms Blackwood was found dying by her 11-year-old twin daughters in their home in Pakenham when they returned from school on August 1, 2013.
It seemed to be a burglary gone wrong.
It’s believed attempts to withdraw money from Ms Blackwood’s bank card were made at the local bank on the same day she died. But footage of the ATM was lost before detectives learned of its existence.
Murdoch was charged with Ms Blackwood’s murder last week, 24 hours after police announced they were closing in on the killer and released CCTV of a white Nissan Tiida seen in the area before and after her death.
Investigators believed there was a link between the car they were looking for and a man seen acting suspiciously in the area on the day Ms Blackwood died.
Mr Paynter’s website says he grew up in Pakenham, where his family ran a local newsagency.
The Liberal MP’s electorate goes from Pakenham to Cape Paterson.
