Geelong man Jamie Battle sends lewd photo to cop posing as 14-year-old on Snapchat

Disturbing details have been revealed about a Victorian man who sent sexually explicit messages on Snapchat to what he believed was a 14-year-old girl.

A Victorian man sent a lewd image and sexually explicit messages to a 14-year-old girl pressuring her to send him nudes on Snapchat.

But Jamie Battle didn’t know the teen he was chatting to was an undercover cop who was posing as teenage girl “Emily” on the social media app.

The 20-year-old man was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order in the County Court of Victoria on Tuesday after pleading guilty to using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

He asked the girl: “Do you like my d--k” and “do you want to have sex with me one day” after sending an explicit photo during the exchange in November 2019.

The Corio man used a Snapchat account in his own name to send the messages.

Battle, who was 19 at the time of the offending, told the officer posing as the teen girl he was 15 and sent messages asking for “nudes”, the court was told.

The brief exchange between the pair lasted 39 minutes. He was arrested in June 2020.

“You knew it was wrong Mr Battle, and you knew that you were dealing apparently with a 14-year-old girl and you were saying you were 15,” Judge Wendy Wilmoth said in her sentencing remarks.

“You persisted with encouraging her to send you nude pictures even though she was telling you she was at school.”

The judge labelled the offending “blatant and persistent”.

She took into account the 20-year-old had no prior criminal history, had pleaded guilty, and was a young offender with ADHD and learning difficulties.

A doctor said he was a “special needs young man” with another saying he had a borderline intellectual disability.

Battle will also have to take part in the sex offender program.

He will also be registered as a sex offender for eight years.
