‘Can’t wait’: Porsche tragedy driver Richard Pusey a court no-show
Porsche driver Richard Pusey’s lawyer had to give an explanation to a magistrate today for one reason when his client was due to front court.
The Porsche driver who allegedly failed to help four police officers as they died in a horrific road accident did not show up for a court hearing for a separate matter on Thursday.
Richard Pusey’s lawyer was told the court wouldn’t wait for the 42-year-old, who was due in the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Melbourne on charges of theft and unlawful assault.
The charges relate to a separate incident to the Eastern Freeway crash tragedy in Kew, where four police officers were allegedly hit by a truck after they pulled over Pusey for speeding.
Pusey is accused of filming and criticising Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor instead of trying to help after the shocking crash.
Senior Constable Kevin King and constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney were also killed in the crash.
The charges heard in court on Thursday relate to an incident that happened before the April 22 crash tragedy.
Pusey is alleged to have stolen a set of car keys and assaulted a man in Melbourne on October 20, 2018.
Magistrate David Fanning was unimpressed when Pusey’s lawyer Chris McLennan said his client might show up later in the day on the videolink through which the court was sitting.
“I can’t wait,” Mr Fanning said.
“I’ve got a very busy day.
“Did you tell Mr Pusey it was for 10 o’clock?”
Mr McLennan told the court he was trying to call Pusey but didn’t have any luck getting onto his client.
The matter was adjourned in his absence to December 3.
Charges laid against him relating to the crash will be brought to trial, with a directions hearing scheduled for December 15.
