Appearing in the Supreme Court via video link on Monday, Taylor, a former farm labourer, spoke only to enter his guilty plea.

A plea date has been set for September with Taylor’s defence lawyer asking for a lengthy period to seek funding for psychological reports and mental impairment assessments for the court to consider when handing down a sentence.

Details of the alleged murder are yet to be told in court.

Neighbours described Mr Kennedy, who lived alone, as a “happy-go-lucky” man in the wake of the incident.

“He was a funny guy, he was outgoing and so kind to everyone,” a next-door neighbour said.

The matter will return to court on September 9.
