The restored single-fronted Victorian home, blending Federation charm with a bold contemporary extension, captivated buyers with its dramatic design and north-facing aspect.
The local buyer, “an admirer of architectural brilliance”, was drawn to the home’s attention to detail and liveable elegance.
WhiteFox Northside’s Dylan Francis said the property was one of the finest single-fronted homes he’s encountered during his time in real estate.
“The balance of period detailing and modern design is exceptional in this home,” Mr Francis said.
“Owen’s thoughtful integration of high ceilings, skylights, and the striking limestone kitchen bench creates a sense of space and sophistication rarely seen in homes of this size.”
Designed by Castley for his own family some of the home’s standout features include its French oak floors, textured plaster walls, and a central Mocca Creme limestone bench.
Skylights and a central courtyard provide the home with lots of natural light, while period features like leadlight glass and ornate ceiling rosettes retain the home’s historic feel.
The bathroom, incorporates a double vanity, walk-in shower, and laundry, maximising functionality and space without compromising on aesthetics.
Mr Castley told The Herald Sun he often reflects on the journey of designing his own home.
“The process allowed me to push boundaries and explore new ideas,” he said.
“Balancing heritage elements with a contemporary edge was both challenging and rewarding.”
As Mr Castley and his partner look to their next project, the Castley McCrimmon co-founder said he’s leaving more than just a house but a home built to last.
“The new owner truly appreciates its magic,” Mr Castley said.
After selling the home just in time for Christmas, Mr Castley said he was looking forward to starting his next project.
