Twit-for-tat insults with Kyle Sandilands and Dave Hughes
ROVE funnyman Dave Hughes and radio loudmouth Kyle Sandilands have hurled insults at each other in a Twitter war.
CONSIDERING the concerns over cyber bullying, loudmouth Kyle Sandilands and comedian Dave Hughes hardly set a good example yesterday by waging a raging Twitter tirade against one other.
The pair have battled publicly and privately for two years.
Yesterday Sandilands started the online war by taking a swipe at Rove McManus, the Ten Network's biggest star and Hughes's good mate.
It was all funny guy Hughesy needed to hit - or type - back.
Their exchange, based on ratings, raged for hours. Here is a contracted and edited version of part of the exchange.
Hughes: "At least Rove doesn't claim to be Australia's No. 1 radio show when he isn't."
Sandilands: "Rove can't brag about being No. 1 because he ain't - we are".
Hughes: "You might be in Sydney but shows in other parts of Australia have more listeners, so saying you're No. 1 is dumb."
Sandilands: "We are No. 1 in every city, i.e. national, so check your facts then eat my a---.
Sandilands: "Doesn't matter how you look at it - we are No. 1 national and in our very own, most competitive time slot - breakfast."
Hughes: "Seriously, well done on your off-peak-hour show that comes on after a show that rates sky high. You're the real hero."
Sandilands: "You can't be riding off the coat-tails when you do breakfast. They prop up the whole station. You on the other hand are failing terribly."
Hughes: "Someone once told me if you're good you won't have to tell people, they'll tell you. Something in that for all of us, yeah?"
Maybe, but we don't think Sandilands will ever be averse to some self-promotion. Much of the exchange was so blue it was unpublishable.
